You seem to have completely missed my point. I never suggested that EXECUTING people is better than locking them up in prison or that we should execute people to solve the problem of over population. I will try to qualify my statement in way you can understand.
Criminals who do not value the lives of others do not deserve to have my tax money spent on them. I'll give you an example Paul Bernardo. This guy is one of Canada's worst Serial Killers and rapists and it is clear that he DID NOT value the lives of his victims, Now he has to spend the rest of his life in jail. Why should my tax money go twards feeding and sheltering a serial killer? do you get mey point? also regarding your point about how the west feels about the death penalty, you are correct no european country has the death penalty and neither does Canada
However some states do have the death Penalty and it is also supported Fedrally - Just look at how Timothy McVeigh was executed. There is no doubt in my mind that the US Government did the right thing by executing him. I can't wait till you tell me that it would have been better to just lock him up. If any of your loved ones were there in the Oklahoma building would you be satisfied by just having him locked up. I hope I was clear.
I know the death penaly always sparks up a debate and people feel strongly about their views. I don't anticipate you changing your views. I am just trying to explain my POV which is shared by many Americans and Canadians alike.

I believe you're the one who have missed the whole point. Locking up people in prison is not sponsored by your tax money. Those people are not locked in 5-stars hotels. They are locked up in prison where they work and produce things that could be sold to benefit the prison. And part of that money is used to feed the prisoner and clean his/her cell.
What is sponsored by tax money in the Middle East right now are the Qoran competitions and the Haj trips to Saudi Arabia, not to mention the anti-Christian media programs.
Don't try to convince me that your point of view is shared by MANY Americans and Canadians. I've lived in both countries and that's not true.
Now, would it be hard for me to see the killer of my family locked in prison instead of executed? Probably. However, that's the power of CHRISTIANITY. It's a religion that is all about forgiveness. When our Lord was being executed on the Holy Cross, He asked for forgiveness of those who were killing Him. Same thing happened with St Steven and many martyrs.
That's why we're Christians.
